Team Beta WA has successful State Champs

Team Beta WA had a successfull weekend at the Western Australian State championships. The State Champs were conducted by the Pathfinders Trials MCC and held at Woodendale Road Toodjay.

Whilst the weather wasn't the best, the team results were outstanding. Team Beta WA took all three spots on the A Grade podium with Lewis Nolan gaining another WA State title. Lewis who had just returned from Spain on the Wednesday was riding Neil's bike and was happy with his ride. He said he was starting to feel tired on the second lap but it was his best lap. Its great to have him back in WA and I'm sure the boys are looking forward to some serious practising. Tim took the second spot on the podium and was comfortable with his ride. It was his first ride since dislocating his shoulder at the Australian Titles in NSW and whilst he was a bit wary of the shoulder it stood up ok. He said it began to ache on the second lap but on third it settled down. He had the shoulder taped to prevent it as best it could from the possiblitity of it re-dislocating. Alex took the number 3 spot on the podium but he wasn't all that happy with himself wanting to be of course in a better place. He shouldn't be too tough on himself as the sections were fairly tough and he is after all riding a 125.

Junior rider Luke Patane took 3rd place in his first WA State title event and his first ride on his new Rev80. Luke found that the Rev80 put the power to the ground far better than his previous bike a Rev50 and it caught him out on the first lap costing him a few points that put him behind the 8 ball. He came to terms with it quickly and put in excellent rides on laps 2 & 3. Beta rider Ben Dumitro had a very good ride on his Rev3 125 to place 2nd in the low scoring event.

Team Beta WA Enduro rider Paul Price contested the event as well riding B Grade on a Rev3 270. Paul took the number 1 spot on the podium showing clearly he hasn't lost any of his trials skills. It is actually 10 years ago that Paul won B Grade at the age 16. He had a brilliant ride in relishing the wet slippery conditions.

Quite a number of Beta riders had good results at the State Champs. Matt Page took out C Grade on his Rev3 200 with a very confident ride whilst Martin Softley also Rev3 200 mounted secured 2nd place in Club Class and Roger Burrell 3rd on a Rev3 270. Lewis Kitney and Rohan piloted their Beta Rev3 270 sidecar outfit to 3rd place.

Congratulations to all place getter in the WA State Champs.

Neil & Jess off on their Honeymoon

Neil & Jess head off on their honeymoon Sat morn to Italy for two weeks.  Neil unfortunately got caught by the date change for the State Champs and was disappointed to be missing the State Champs.  However I’m sure it was a wise decision not to change the honeymoon date.

Lewis arrived safe and sound

Lewis flew into Perth Wed arvo after a ride to the airport on a scooter clutching his suitcase. He only had a couple of hours sleep on the plane but felt fine and was keen to get on his bike, surprise surprise. Im sure he got plenty of hugs from mum and Rachel. Looking forward to seeing him back on bike and catching up on the goss.

Lewis rides his last world event!!!!

hey guys...
ok my day...
me and kyle warmed up in the practice area
where i found my bike was running absolute shit !!
didnt even go up to 3/4 revs, and had little bottom end !
didnt notice it earlier, as i hadnt done any training in the days befor,
although we put a diFf base gasket, it was running shit !
kyles bike was sweet, as he had a high compression head on it...

lap one the sun was out, but sections stiLl wet, makin it extremely slippery...
first 4 sections were highest up, and the bike really struggled in them...
started off weLL with a 1 in section 1,
but then 5 on section 2, as i didnt make it up a large step, bike wouldnt rev !!
section 4 i had the same problem both laps, was on clean,
but couldnt get up this one rock !
it wasnt massive, i did bigger rocks in the trial, but u need revs and to hit it hard !
so i wasnt happy with that haha....

many- many of the sections on the first lap,
u were just battling to get through with a 3...
not just me, many many riders struggled....

the sections were very very long too, so it was very tight on time...
i had some real shit rides on the first lap...
there were a few sections in the water, possible 1 or 0, but i got 3s.... grrr
I was happy gettin a 3 on section 10 i think it was...
kyle didnt even attempt it on lap 1...
had this biggg slippery rock step, with like a weird take oFf......
many riders were 5ing it, was happy i got up, 3rd gear haha,
the bike was little better on the last half of the lap, as it was lower down the hiLl....
section 14, rode the first 3/4 of it clean and super stylish haha,
the crowd were clapping haha, but then i 3d the end grrr hahaha.
I was happy i beat kyle by 8 pts on lap one!!!

lap2...
started oFf well,
1, 1 (got up the step ), 3, 5 (couldnt get up the step haha)
then i started gettin real weak in my hands....
lap 2 was 5pts better than lap one, but I 5d two sections I only 3d on lap 1 !
so that didnt make me happy....
had 6 fives on lap two, when really it shoulda been possible for me to only have one 5.
I got cramp in me right hand, it was locking up...
and this older lady observer was givin me water hahahahaha.
It was great to finish on equal points as kyle... given aLl the prob's i had.....
shows ive improved me ridin....
but yeh many many sections today were just a bloody dog fight to get through with 3 haha.
lookin forward to seeing everyone,
 Lewis..............

Lewis at the womans world champs.

feels like i only just got to europe haha
 till tomorrow ---Lewis.

Lewis in France for last event .

hey  all !
weLl had lots of problems with me bike this morning, so i didnt have time to go practice !
looked at the sections after lunch...
some are death, but some are dooable for me if i ride really weLl !
I really hope me wrist gets better, cos it was hard to hold on when i rode today
and like some of the sections are good, so im spewin bout me wrist !
the sections are more rocky, and some are in river/waterfaLl bits too !
just hope my wrist aint too bad.

caught up with people from tdn just befor...
good to see them...
the girls are ridin tomora...

gotta do classification in the morning,
then iLl watch some if the girls ride,
then get me bike ready in the arvo !

Team Beta WA at Perth Motorcycle & Scooter Show

The Perth Motorcycle and Scooter www.perthbikeshow.com.au was held at the Perth Convention Centre Fri, Sat and Sun 11-13th. Team Beta WA conducted trials demos and interviews throughout the weekend. On Two Wheels covered the event www.on2wheels.com.au and also conducted public interviews with the team on the main stage each day throughout the weekend. In 2010 On Two Wheels starts up again on Foxtel Feb 22nd and a new series of Riding WA will be on a new free to air station West tv which I understand will be Channel 6 on Feb 2nd 2010. Neil, Alex and Luke Patane rode the event, Neil and Alex rode every day whilst Luke who was riding his first public demo under Team Beta WA rode on Sat only. I’m sure Luke would have been happy to have been there every day but logistics was an issue. Neil and Alex put on a top show. The prop trailer has been modified giving it a longer ramp thus reducing the angle allowing Neil to perfect his down hill nose wheelie flick turns. Check out the video clip. Alex celebrated his Aust Junior title with the crowd who acknowledge his achievement. Alex got a bit of a surprise when two sexy models came onto the stage during a interview to give him some congratulation kisses, check out the video on www.youtube.com/user/trialswa . Alex had been fighting off many girls who wanted to rip him to bits. Both Neil and Alex stunned the crowd with their back wheel antics and on the edge riding. Luke Patane had a brilliant ride considering it was his first ride on his new bike and his first ride at a major demo. It was a very successful weekend that wrapped up about 5pm.

NEW AIROH MX/ENDRO HELMETS

At the Australian Trials Championships this year I purchased a new AIROH mx/enduro helmet (pictured). I finally got a chance to test it out on a trail ride on the weekend. Due to the fact it weighs a massive 950gms (lighter than most trial helmets) it didn’t even feel like I was wearing a helmet at all. I was very impressed with the fit and also the shape that protects the face and neck better then any helmet I’ve worn, and did I mention that it only weighs 950gms?

I am that impressed with the Airoh helmet we will be stocking the mx/enduro helmets along with the trials helmets.

For any enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Frank Patane caught secretly practising for State Champs

Frank Patane has been caught secretly practising for the State Championships. Frank has engaged a tutor to help him tone up on his riding skills. It also appears that he has made some illegal mechanical modifications to his Beta 270. There may well be some protests lodged at the state champs over all this.

Luke Patane rides first Demo at Perth Motorcycle Show

Luke Patane rode his first trials demo at the Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show this weekend. Luke rode like a seasoned pro and handled the sections with ease. There was a huge crowd which didn’t bother Luke in the slightest.

Luke Patane steps up to a Rev80

Luke Patane has stepped up to a Rev80 for the rest of this season and into 2010.  The Rev80 has full size wheels and the same suspension has the Rev3’s.  Luke has taken to the new bike like a duck to water and looks like he has been riding it for years.  He will be looking to take advantage of the new bike to carry him to the top of the podium at the State Championships this weekend coming.

Tim's Shoulder on the mend

Tim dislocated his shoulder on the second lap of the first day at the National Champs in NSW.  After returning to Perth Tim had a check up with a physio who was impressed with how good it was just 6 days after the incident.  Tim states he has full movement but of course it is still a bit weak.  He is resting it as best he can and will sit out the Trials demos at the Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show in preparation for the WA State Champs on the 20th Sept at Toodjay.

Spanish World Round Sections

If you think you've ridden a hard trial in Perth, spare a thought for Lewis riding these sections in spain! Photos usually make things look smaller so judging by these photos these sections were crazy. Lewis was happy with one of the sections on saturday where he got through with a 1 and a 3, on the same section on sunday the overall winner Alfredo Gomez got two 5's.

Team Beta WA at Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show

Team Beta WA will be at the 2009 Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show this weekend 11 – 13th Sept at the Perth Convention Centre.  The team will be conducting trials demo’s throughout the weekend.  Go to www.perthbikeshow.com.au for info on the event.

Lewis Nolan selects a 290 for 2010

Lewis has ordered a 290cc for 2010.  Having ridden a 2009 250 Evo in Aust and a 290 Sherco in Europe, Lewis has elected to ride a 290 Evo for 2010.  Lewis has being enjoying the power of the big bore and by all reports it sounds like the power has been handy indeed when tackling those European sections.  It will be interesting to get Lewis’s comments on the difference between the 250 and the 290.

Lewis has one more event to go.  This weekend is the French World Round and the last event Lewis will contest before heading home just in time for the WA State Champs.
