Lewis's tour of Europe almost over

Lewis has three main events left to contest then it is back to WA just in time for the WA State Champs. He has the Spanish Euro, Spanish World and French World rounds to finish off his tour. We are sure he is keen to get home and catch up with every one but at the same time will want to stay in Europe riding. We are looking forward to having him back and seeing the improvement in his riding which we are sure has stepped up a peg or two.

Nationals WA Team up date

Lead up preparations to the Nationals this weekend is going well. Neil, Tim and Alex have practise Wed and Thurs and all are riding well. The bike set up has gone well without any problems. The weather has been perfect, fine and sunny. The venue is fairly dry and dusty but a magic one just the same. Not sure what the weather will be like for the weekend but we wont be complaining if it stays the same. Frank, Dave, Mark and Sue flew in today (Thurs). Frank left Donnybrook at 0300 and got into Sydney 1330 and was out practising by 1600, he went to bed early though. Tomorrow is prep and chill day and then into it Sat and Sun. All the best to Alex in his last year as a junior.

Lewis's day at Olot.

 ok my day at Olot.
We left Pons place just after 9am.
we had to pick up the mum dad and boy from down the road, they came,
then had to pick up a dad and 2 sons who came also,
its only 1hr ish to Olot, but didnt get there tiLl after 12! haha

then once we got there we went ridin.
that place is amazing!!!
the river is insane to ride in!
its sooooo green, and like some parts of the river is just aLl rock, l
like no sand or rubbel, just rock!
and there smaLl waterfalls everywhere and u ride up em its crazy!
and there are big muddy banks and hills outta the creek also
its like Prestine in Italy, but better!
so before lunch we rode one section.
it was soooo hot and sunny, such nice day.
then after lunch it poured with rain!!! crazy the weather here.
spewin cos didnt get to swim in the water hole,
and I couldnt get any pics of the river! .

after lunch we went back out training, was soooooooooooo frigin sliiperyyy!
its amazing, so hard to explain.
trained 3 sections, aLl very very hard.
was really haPpy but, cos i was doin alot of stuFf better than Soung,
which i didnt expect.
so rode till like 730, then we packed up headed home,

the first section after lunch,
i could get to the end with just a 1,
but at the end was this big steep slipperyyy as heLL mud bank/hiLl.
i got up it few times, but crashed it heaps haha.
sooo hard cos never ridden that stuFf before.

the 2nd section had this mud bank at the start,
then u had to ride across the hiLl
was sooooo hard but haha.
once u ride it few times it gets more and more slippery.
I only got up it about once in every 4shots lOL.
the rest of that section was awsum, just up the creek,
up waterfalls rocks and aLl, then another mud bank at the end.
i managed a 2 on that section, that was a great ride for me.

3rd section we didnt ride for long, cos was just before we left.
but I rode most of that one better than Soung, cept for few bits.
so was happy with my ridin.
never ridden this sorta stuFf befor. it was great.

but yeh the river is sooooooo cool lOL. and beautiful.
we had a great days training,

Alex wins his first Premier Class event

Congratulations Alex!!  Alex took the number one spot at Prestige/Winter 5 in his first win in A Grade over his team mate Tim Price in a David and Goliath battle that has been on going for some time.  Tim who has managed to hold Alex off in the last few events couldn’t quite keep the feet up enough to match Alex.  Alex’s balance was spot on and clearly has improved from the last couple of events.  It is also evident that his concentration and focus is improving.  This sets the scene for the State Champs in Sept where Tim will have both Alex and Lewis to contend with by himself as Neil will miss the State Champs.

Lewis update.

heya not alot been happening lately to report on' have been training mainly.

We rode an exibition demo  at a place about 6hrs from Joans place.
yeh the show was fun, yeh the kids funnny, some even wanted photos haha.
and they say " hello hello " and they think it soooooo funny,
and they asked if I in X games haha.
We rode on this basketball court and big stairs like seats and up this BIG rock wall
The kids loved it, haha, never signed so many autographs !!!!!
there was a pool there too, had 2 swims, it uas reaLllly Hot there.

Had good ride this arvo, just me and Seoung at start,
then joan came and set one section.
was pretty hard was happy with my riding.
I think we going to Olot on monday. hopefuLly.
there a big pool bit in the river there where u can swim too,
so i rLly hope we go, its meant to be good as.
Then the weekend after this there is a competition me and Seoung may be riding in.
not heLl hard, dont need a minder, so i think joan will drive us there in the truck,
then on sunday he go to a pushbike comp.
the trial is saturday and sunday.
and lots of it is in a river. so hope we do that too lOL.
 see you later  Lewis.

PAUL RIDING WITH RAPTOR FOOTPEGS

Paul received a set of RAPTOR footpegs for his enduro bike just in time for round 3 of the W.A. State enduro championships in Donnybrook. Out of the box they are impressive, everyone is always shocked just how little they weigh, and after riding 3 seasons on the Raptor trials pegs I can assure you they are bloody strong! The Donnybrook enduro was very muddy and Paul said he was amazed the difference it made. " It just gave me heaps more control, and even though it was wet and extremely slippery I was never worried about slipping off " RAPTOR make footpegs for all trials bikes, and also most enduro and MX bikes, for any information give Neil an email at neil@beta.id.au or catch up with us at the next trial or enduro.

LEWIS UPSTAGING JOAN ON THE BACK WHEEL!

Everything is going weLl, doing alot of ridin, from about 10am - 130pm, then again from 6pm - 830pm, but this varies.
Had people from the island of mallorca stay last week, they give me the nickname of kangaroo or kangarito, or skippy haha. Very nice people.
Someone else who has been out training with us a few times now is the newly crowned world junior enduro champion, Oriole Mena, 22yrs old. On the trials bike he is about a top C grade rider! He is a reaLly nice guy tho, he took me out the other night with all his friends, as there was a big yearly celebration in the local town of mataro. So we went out, watched fireworks, and went to a bar on the beach, but dont worry i only drank coke hahah. Had to be up the next morning for training, so did he.
Other than that not alot else happens, dont get out of the small town of Canyamars much, it is a nice place tho, and really good for riding in the surrounding forests.

Joans back yard is also very enjoyable to ride in, he has many indoor style sections set up, from large quarry rocks, to big logs, concrete products, and rocks excavated into the hiLl to create double triple and even quadruple steps! joan showed us this rock toni bou attempted 3 times, but never got up.
It is bloody insaneeeeeeeeeee!! You look at it and just go no wayyy. its just massive, undercut, uphiLl run, and the kicker is miles back. iLl get a picture of it when i can.
also Joan is a very very good rider. Some sections i can manage a 3 or a 5, he goes and gets 0 first shot! haha. But in the yard there is some Backwheel hopping turns and jumps that i do that he wont even attempt! haha so thats really fun. He just says 'incredible'. i Even saw him showing his neighbour the other day so it must have impressed him! haha

David and Goalith (Alex and Tim)

Team Beta WA team mates Tim and Alex are going head to head with almost nothing between them.  Much like Rossi and Lorenzo, Tim and Alex are serious rivals but we suspect they get on better than them.  With Tim riding a Evo 290 and Alex a Evo 125 it is a real David and Goalith battle going on.  However with the size difference between Tim and Alex we suspect there is about the same power to weight ratio.  At Prestige/Winter 4 at Hobbs Farm Tim held off Alex by just one point.  At the trial before Tim had a healthy buffer but it looks like the school holidays has given Alex that opportunity to close the gap.

Luke Patane Joins Team Beta WA

Team Beta WA are proud to announce that Luke Patane has joined our team.  Team Beta WA are proudly supported by Belray Total Performance Lubricants, Moto Dynamics, Raptor Footrests, Dale Signs, Tiger Fabrication and Total Motorcycle Accessories.  Along with our sponsors we look forward in supporting Luke through his trials career and trust that our association is of mutual benefit.  Luke joins the team as our junior rider.  He was born on 31-07-97 and lives in Donnybrook in WA’s Southwest.  He lists his favourite riders as Tony Bou, Neil Price and Lewis Nolan, his favourite food is spaghetti and his career highlight was winning the Pathfinder Prestige Intro Series for 2005.  Luke also plays aussie rules footy.  Luke is currently riding Junior on a Beta Rev50 and judging by the rate that he is growing we would expect to see him on a Beta Rev80 for 2010.  We wish Luke all the best in his trials career.

NEW 2010 BETA EVO RELEASED!

(CLICK FOR LARGER IMAGE)

The new 2010 models have arrived.
New features for 2010

The changes involve the following parts (descriptions concerns both 2 and 4 stroke versions):

  • New radiator and new position of the radiator header tank for better ergonomics and efficiency.
  • New rear suspension settings developed with the racing team which improves the overall working of the shock and makes the bike easier to move at the rear.
  • New 2T ignition settings to make the very low power
more linear. We have found good improvements in this area using also the new carburettor settings.
  • New setting carburettor, made exclusively for 2-stroke
version, in order to reduce consumption and to make the carburation as efficient as possible.
  • Air filter box improved to be more efficient.
  • New CDI settings on 4T 250/300 to improve mid to top power.

Lewis rides 3rd round of Spanish Championships, sunday 12th july.

After a drive of 1000km from Pon's place we arrived in Pobladura, the venue for the 3rd round of the Spanish champs. The place here seems nice, has a river running beside it and very hilly too.We set the truck up and then put a new fork leg on my bike to replace one I damaged in practice, its only a standard tube so the leg sticker doesn't match the other  one, but thats all they had. Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany came over and said hello.
We walked the sections this arvo, some are very steep and rocky, some are in the river, very slippery, some on banks outta the river, very steep AND slippery!! there are a few that I think I should be able to clean, but whether I can do that tomorrow or not is another story!!! ha ha, I'm riding the 2nd hardest class so we'll see.The last section is man made in the middle of town, so thats cool.
WELL, rode the trial today, I had the shittest day, only got 2 fives each lap, but got so many 1s 2s 3s where I could have gone clean, I was really nervous at the start, probly cos I knew I should be able to ride some of the sections. But I did manage to get 7 cleans, 5 ones, 3 twos, but the 11 threes cost me.1st lap I lost 34pts and 3 time pts,2nd lap 30pts and 2 time for a total of 69pts which gave me 13th place out of 17 starters. Not as good as I had hoped. Now its back to Pon's place.
till next time,  Lewis.

Photos from the Italian World Round

Lewis preparing for the World Junior event

Dougie and Tayla, Only a few days before the event he was unsure if he was even able to ride due to some huge crashes in the Erzberg Enduro. He amazingly ended up 4th only 2 points off Bou for a podium! Jeroni had some good rides and was only 7 points off a podium, Tayla must of inspired him because the following weekend he recorded his first World Round win.

Laia was as amazing as ever, she was also back from a lengthy injury break but you certainly cant tell by watching her! Jeroni and Dougie at the practise area, Ivan the factory Beta mechanic is behind Dougie tuning his bike.

Lewis in practise under the watchful eye of Joan Pons, Lewis had just travelled 17 hours by plane and 16 hours by truck, certainly makes some of our long trips to events back home look like nothing! All the top guys practise in the same area, as you can see Adam Raga in the background.

Toni Bou mucking around in practise! He was the only rider pushing hard. No one else even bothered looking at his practise sections because they were insane, but as usual Toni can ride them as calm as ever. The other photo is of Francesco Iolitta, he is a local Italian rider. Its hard to tell but he got to the top of the big rock and both of his minders missed him, He and his bike come crashing down hard! There were a few Italian words exchanged, even though I can't speak Italian I know they were not compliments.

Fujigas is popular everywhere, He always had groups of people around him. He rode really well. Unfortunately he had an average second lap which cost him the win. Raga took the win and was a league ahead on the day. His score was made up from a lot of silly mistakes. The last section on lap 1 Raga somehow crashed on flat ground? He also made silly errors on the easier section which the lower riders were cleaning, but he made it count on the difficult section and deserved the win.

Just thought i would chuck this picture in, I was amazed that they still use steel poles for section pegs! No wonder the world guys are so good, if they don't get up the rock they will get impaled! The commentator having a word with Joan, Not to sure what he said but he was probably stirring up Lewis.

Lewis up on the starting podium, as usual the commentator asked if he rides kangaroos. Also Lewis lining up for section 3 on lap 2. He had an awesome ride on the first 2 sections but i think i may have put him off because i think he got 5.

I just had to put these photos in, Casey kicking Rossi's arse at his home! It was SWEET!

Neil and Jess Married in Darwin

Congratulations to Neil and Jess who both made it to the church in time to be wed, they are now Mr & Mrs Price.  The weather was perfect for both the wedding and the boy’s pre wedding activities ie fishing, crabbing, go-carting and fireworks night.  I think Neil and Jess should get married more often.

Subject: RE: bike park

Today started like any other. I got out of bed and Seoung, a korean rider training with Joan, didn't so I had a ride in the Pons yard.
Then Seoung finally got up, haha, then he had a ride as well.
Then Toni Bou, 3 of his minders, and Albert Cabestany and his dad arrived for a practise. So we went with them for a practise in the forest!! which is next to Joan's place.
WOW!!! they do some unbeliveable!!!!! stuff.
Except they talk, way-yyyyy more then they ride! haha
They ride for like 20mins, then talk for like 40mins, ride for a little, talk for alot  haha. WoT a BUZZ, out riding with the best in the in the world, and they are unreal to watch, soooo way good, and I was there with them.
Then when we started to leave, the POLICE ARRIVED haha.
So there we were, all speeding off thru the forest to get away from the POLICE (apparently you are not allowed to ride in forest)
So Toni, Albert, 4 minders, me, Seoung and Joan all escaped from the Police trying to catch us in the forest.
So I had to have another ride in the yard this arvo, because we cant go back in forest today or maybe not even tomorrow, so wot a bummer.
But it was awsome watchin them ride, Toni is soooooooooooo much better than anyone I know, WOW Incredibable.!!!!!!!
 talk to you's soon, LEWIS.!!!!!!!

Tim and Tayla back in Aust

Tim and Tayla landed back in Aust on Tuesday 30th June after a 6 week holiday in Europe and then jump back on a plane Wednesday 1st July bound for Darwin for Neil & Jess’s wedding.  They have heaps of stories from the Italian World Round and catching up with Lewis.  Tayla enjoyed the trial stating how friendly everyone was including the top boys.  Tim had to keep an eye her as she seem to take to Bou.
